ALL I WANTED
The story of my childhood abduction
All I wanted was to go to the store and buy a ten-cent candy bar
That’s all I wanted
When Mr. Teacher man came drivin’ ‘roun’, smilin’ ‘roun’, lecherousin’ ‘roun’
Wooing me in
Coaxing me in
Cooing me in
Trusting me in
Trusted me right in and drove me far away to a park where he reached for me
And I ran, I ran, and I screamed
He got scared and…
Coaxed me back in
Wooed me back in
Trusted me back in
But this time no cooing
He drove me back
But not before
He denigrated me down
‘Sparaged me down
Spewed me down – my ten-year old self
“Afterall, you ain’t no spring chicken,” he spat
He pulled over
I got out of the car
Shaking from cold
Though hot outside
Feeling alone
Though people all around.
Walking and walking but not knowing where
Walking and walking but not knowing how
Emptiness filled me up
Heaviness weighed me down
All because I wanted a ten-cent candy bar
